Thousands flock to car show

The third annual Auckland Brit & Euro Classic Car Show on Sunday was a “fantastic success”, says car show chairman Rev Dr Richard Waugh.

“We had a record 837 cars and some motorcycles displayed, with crowd estimates between 7000 to 9000 people, assisted by more than 100 volunteers, and with all donations going to the good work of the Howick Historical Village,” he said.

Car display numbers and public attending were up about 33 per cent on the previous year’s record attendance.

The ambience of the tree-lined avenues at Lloyd Elsmore Park and the adjacent Howick Historical Village all made for a very special experience, he said.

“We are always indebted to the many car clubs and car owners for their wonderful efforts preparing their magnificent cars for display,” Rev Waugh said.

The car show would not be possible without the major sponsorship support from Howick Local Board, and other sponsorship from Protecta Insurance, Times Newspapers and NZ Classic Driver magazine.

“Many supportive organisations helped in all sorts of important ways, including Howick Historical Village, EAST FM radio, Cameron Leggett (photographer), Ormiston and Te Puru Scouts, Howick Menz Shed, Rotary Clubs of East Auckland, LifeGrowth Community Trust (East City Wesleyan Church), Pakuranga United Rugby Club, Parks Department of Auckland Council, and the Mercedes-Benz Botany dealership.

“Our committee thanks them all.

“On behalf of our committee and especially secretary Darryl Bretherton, registrar Richard Leech, and Patron Laurie Hayward, many thanks to everyone involved who helped make the day such a memorable success.

“We encourage people to complete the online evaluation form  (see www.briteurocarshow.nz).”
