Guests and volunteers past and present of the Howick Selwyn Centre came together recently to celebrate the Centre’s 15-year anniversary.
The milestone celebration saw around 80 guests enjoyed a lively programme of social activities, gentle exercise and morning tea.
The Selwyn Centre at All Saints Anglican Church is a community drop-in centre for older people which provides seniors with a valuable opportunity to meet up two mornings each week in a friendly and positive environment.
The programme, which operates on Mondays and Fridays, welcomes people of all faiths and backgrounds and aims to enhance older people’s social interaction and engagement in life and make a difference in the lives of those who may be lonely.
The Howick Selwyn Centre first opened at All Saints in 2004 under the guidance of former clergy team and Howick locals, Reverends Diane Miller-Keeley and Bruce Keeley.
“We want to celebrate 15 wonderful years of supporting Howick’s senior citizens and enriching the social connectedness, sense of belonging and general wellbeing of those who may otherwise be at risk of becoming vulnerable through isolation” said Mary Rolf, current Chair of the All Saints’ Parish Committee.
