Macleans College traditionally hosts an annual art sale and exhibition in June each year as a fundraising event to support the Macleans College First XI Girl’s Hockey Team.
Unfortunately this year, the organisers had to make the hard decision early on to cancel the art sale and exhibition due to Covid-19.
The priority for the school was the health and well-being of the artists involved as well as the customers, parents and hockey players. Fortunately, the team was able to utilise the creative web skills of Julian and Kate Hindson – two artists who have traditionally exhibited at the show – to host an online annual art sale.
This year, instead of having only two days to showcase the work of the talented New Zealand artists, the creative works will be on display in August and September for the public to have an opportunity to purchase them.
Currently, there are 43 registered artists exhibiting 226 pieces of artwork with more artwork being uploaded on a regular basis.
Jackie Hjorth, artist liaison officer in the Art Sale Committee says, “As a team, we are so thankful for the skills of local graphic designers Julian and Kate Hindson to have made this possible. The website enables artists who usually exhibit at our show to have the chance to display their works with an online presence at a time when so many other art shows have been cancelled or postponed.
“All artists are based in New Zealand, with many of them living in the Howick and Pakuranga area so it is a great opportunity to support New Zealand-made, including artists in our immediate community.”
For those who would like to physically view a piece of art before committing to a purchase, there is an enquiry form within each artist’s gallery on the website so that buyers can ask questions or discuss a commissioned work. All enquiries will go to a member of the Macleans College art sale team who will put the buyer in touch with the relevant artist or answer any questions they may have.
A portion of the sales proceeds from each art sale goes to support the Macleans College First XI Girls Hockey team and helps fund the cost of their annual tournament being held in September.
