It’s been a year in the making, and now this weekend’s Auckland Brit and Euro Car Show is set to impress the masses.
Held on Sunday, March 5 at Lloyd Elsmore Park, this year’s non-competitive public event has 638 registered vehicles – from old school Ford Escorts to motorbikes and classic Ferraris.
It’s a 40 per cent increase on last year’s numbers, said Rev Dr Richard Waugh, who started the inaugural event in 2016 with Laurie Hayward and other car enthusiasts, and the backing of the BMW, Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz and MG car clubs.
He’s expecting around 5000 to 7000 people to show up on the day, which is sponsored by the Howick Local Board as well as other commercial outlets.
“Our volunteer group is working hard to ensure a very successful event. Our committee, especially secretary Garry Robinson, and helped by local voluntary organisations like Howick Menz Shed and Captain Musick Air Scouts, is very excited by the growth of the classic car show and we urge the people of East Auckland to support this large free community event.
“With plenty of food and a live broadcast from EAST FM it will be a memorable and highlight event for every age and culture.”
Howick Historical Village is working closely with classic car show organisers and will also be hosting a Live Day called ‘Trendy Trades of the 19th Century’ on March 5, featuring entertainment, the vintage tool club and horse and cart rides for a small admission charge.
