The cause of a fire at TruDesign Plastics factory on Ti Rakau Drive is under investigation.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand said there were multiple calls reporting the blaze to them at 4:55pm on Wednesday, July 28.
Community members reported the fire to the Times at around 5:20 pm.
At 6:02, the NZ Police reported that “police are assisting Fire and Emergency NZ at the building fire” and that “motorists are asked to avoid the area as there is significant congestion”.
As fire-fighters fought the flames, the police controlled the traffic.
The road was closed between Gossamer Drive and Trugood Drive. Traffic came to a standstill.
Fire and Emergency NZ said the fire was contained by 6:46 pm. Emergency services continued to damp down hotspots for several hours.
Fourteen appliances were left overnight.
No one was reported injured.
A fire investigator was on the scene. An investigation into the fire’s cause is underway.
