Announcement of new school in Flat Bush

Besides the recently opened Ormiston Junior College with 170 foundation students that opened this year, there will a new school in Flat Bush for students from Years 1-6. Photo supplied.

Hardly have the doors of Ormiston Junior College with state-of-the-art equipment been thrown open this year with 170 foundation students that there is an announcement of another new school coming up in the area.

Flat Bush South East School will accommodate students from Years 1-6 and is one of six schools to be built as part of the Ministry of Education’s latest Public Private Partnership (PPP).

The PPP will design, finance and construct the school, as well as maintain it for 25 years. This approach means the school board can focus on teaching and learning rather than maintaining their buildings.

Like all the new schools and redevelopments the Government has invested in, Flat Bush South East School will have state-of-the-art, modern and comfortable buildings to ensure local kids and their teachers have a chance to work in the best possible learning environment.

Pleased with today’s announcement of a new school for Flat Bush, Andrew Bayly, National MP for Hunua says: “It’s fantastic to hear our Government is getting the ball rolling on another new school for the Hunua electorate.

“New housing in Flat Bush has led to a lot of young families moving into the area and the construction of Flat Bush South East School will help the community cope with inevitable roll growth.

“Flat Bush is expected to have a bigger population than Gisborne by 2025 so it’s crucial that local schools are ready to accommodate local kids. This school’s roll will likely grow to around 700,” he says.

“This National-led Government is making huge investments in education and this announcement is wonderful news for families in the electorate.”
