The Counties Manukau Croquet Association held their final tournament for 2021 at the Howick Croquet Club on Thursday December 30 with members from seven croquet clubs competing in a handicap doubles competition.
This turned out to be a highly competitive all-day event with 32 keen players battling for supremacy on the Howick greens after being drawn to provide 16 pairs across two divisions.
Blue division winners were Sandra Mitchell (Warkworth) and Roger Kennedy (Manurewa) with Jill Groenestein (Howick) and Jim Dickson (Howick) runners-up.
White division winners were Brendon Neilson (Pukekohe) and Peter Dodge (Takapuna) with Cheryl Windsor (Pakuranga) and Graeme Norton (Papakura) runners-up.
In presenting certificates to the eight successful players, Graeme Norton, President of Counties Manukau Croquet Association, acknowledged the dedication all clubs had displayed in sustaining croquet as a popular, competitive sport within such a difficult year with Covid-19 disrupting so many scheduled programmes.
Howick Croquet also distributed several fun prizes, recognising players for achieving special shots, tactical judgment and impressive ball control during the day.
