East Coast Bays kept themselves within touching distance of the top-four with a strong win over Howick Pakuranga Cricket Club’s Premier Men in the Jeff Crowe Cup competition at Lloyd Elsmore Park on Saturday.
Bowling first, Bays held the Alpaca openers in check as 23 runs came from an attritional first 10 overs. Bill Walsh held firm for the hosts, hitting 85 off 141 balls, while the middle-order duo of David Winn (50) and Andrew Morrison (40) added the impetus to lift their side to 225/6 from their 50 overs.
In reply, an opening stand of 114 between Cole Briggs (63) and Ryan Schierhout (47) took the game away from Howick Pakuranga. It came in quick time too before Ryan Harrison (51*) and Seb Langridge (51) together took Bays to within a dozen runs of the target. Bays fourth win came in the 41st over with seven wickets to spare.

Meanwhile, stunning figures by Rae Allright (5-5) helped Howick Pakuranga’s Premier Women’s side keep themselves in the play-off picture with a tense victory over Parnell in the Pearl Dawson Trophy competition.
While Isabel Mills (33) top-scored for Parnell, Allright was all over the Plums middle-order, with four of her five wickets bowled.
