It is with profound sadness that I inform the Pakuranga United Rugby Club [PURC] membership and wider community whanau of the passing of PURC stalwart Alex Austin.
The family advised me today (March 30) of Alex’s passing yesterday after a challenging period of ill health.
Alex was the ultimate club man – every club needs an Alex Austin.
He was a tireless contributor to our club for many decades. His wit and humour always underlined a desire to get things done. He served as our President from 1992 to 1996 and then Vice Patron assisting with insightful advice and encouragement to the next generation of office holders at our club.
As a life member he was a role model to the younger generation; always immaculately turned out in his Pakuranga No1s when the situation warranted, never short of a rugby story or two and always carried himself with dignity and poise.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the Austin family at this sad time. Rest in peace Alex.
