Exciting refresh coming for Ridge Road mural

The Billboard Project 2022 is set to upgrade the mural on Ridge Road.

The Billboard Project 2022, established by the Howick Village Association and supported by Arts Out East, is to upgrade to the weathered mural at the top of Howick Village on Ridge Road.

Funded by Arts Out East, the mural will see a new framed structure and billboard format welcoming those who enter Howick.

This opportunity offers artists the opportunity to produce work reflective of our local environment, to represent local stories and our diverse cultures.

As a gateway to the village, it’s the perfect location to showcase new visual art and a positive initiative to continue the support of our local creatives.

The work selected will be printed into a billboard format and installed professionally. The artwork will be changed either annually or when a notable event is taking place like Matariki.

The first installation is planned for November 2022 with the brief requesting artwork to represent the 175th celebration of Howick.

Submissions can reflect a range of visual arts media – from drawings, photography, painting or print media. It is open to all artists.

This will be a wonderful change to the entrance to Howick Village and an opportunity for artists to showcase their work and create memorable reflections of our unique local history and environment.

To get a copy of the expression of interest form required, email manager@howickvillage.co.nz. The closing date for applications is end of day Friday, September 23.
