Trap Library East Auckland, a combined community project made up of Rotary, Lions and Friends of Mangemangeroa members, has another trap handout day planned for Sunday.
The group was spearheaded by Pakuranga Rotary and now has representation from the Rotary Clubs of Howick, Half Moon Bay, Somerville and Botany / East Tamaki, from Friends of Mangemangeroa and from the Lions Clubs of Bucklands Beach and Howick.
The Trap Library East Auckland complements the Pest Free Howick Ward project which aims to have 1 in 5 households in the Howick Ward trapping. They provide traps free to all community members keen to get involved.
Trap Library East Auckland has specialised possum and mustelid (weasel, stoat, ferret) traps available to borrow at no charge to enable the trapping of these predator animals. Like any library, they ask residents to record their catches and return the traps once they are finished.
A trap handout and return is scheduled for the third Saturday of every month. Residents borrow or return a possum or stoat trap as part of a Mustelid Control Zone project. Residents can register for a free rat trap with Pest Free Howick Ward on January 15 from 9am to noon. They’ll be located in the underground carpark below Pakuranga Library on the Reeves Road side. Look for the flags.
