Five Howick College students had great success at the recent New Zealand Gymnastics Championships.
The Howick Aerobics team of Laiken Neaves, Alexia Delport, Ashlee Jackson and Martha Fenn combined for a total of four medals.
Delport picked up a silver medal for the pairs and aerodance team, joined by Jackson and Fenn who both won silver medals for aerodance team particular.
The most successful of the lot was Neaves who took gold in the senior international group and was also named as aerobic gymnast of the competition.
Year 10 student Emmerson Windmill was also impressive, finishing third in the tumbling category.
“For the 2023 NZ Gymnastics Nationals, the 13-14-year-old tumbling category was very competitive so coming third and getting a bronze medal was a proud moment,” says Windmill’s mum, Hayley.
Windmill also represented Howick College in the New Zealand Secondary Schools (NZSS) Gymnastic Competition earlier this year where she took the silver medal in the 13-14-year-old tumbling category.
She competed at her first NZ Gymnastics Nationals competition in 2019 at the age of 10. She picked up the bronze medal in the 10-and-under tumbling category.
Windmill also competes in Brazilian Ju Jitsu and has medaled in the sport numerous times.
