Fire and Emergency NZ is responding to a blaze that broke out at Cockle Bay School in east Auckland.
News media reported the school’s pupils and staff were evacuated after the roof of a building caught fire.
Firefighters arrived at the school in Sandspit Road at about 2.45pm today.
Multiple fire trucks were at the scene as well as a support vehicle and aerial appliances.
Fire and Emergency NZ said the building’s roof was well-engulfed and the firefighters were working to extinguish it.

At 3.47pm Auckland Transport posted on X (formerly Twitter) that buses 72M and 72X are detouring due to an emergency service incident on Sandspit Road in Cockle Bay.
“The following bus stops are closed: Stops 6285 and 6290 – Cockle Bay School: Use Stops 6287 or 6292 – Sandspit Road/Howick College.”
