Spend Lunar NY on Lion NZ

Lion NZ will be open to viewing this Saturday.

Weekend plans sorted! Celebrate the Lunar New Year in style aboard the legendary racing yacht Lion New Zealand.

In a shared effort by the New Zealand Sailing Trust (NZST) and Whitford-based ShareBoating, Lion NZ will be open to viewing this Saturday, February 24.

Having credited their formation to the adventures of Sir Peter Blake, there’s no better source than NZST to learn about Blake’s legendary racing yacht and its adventures.

Whether you want to relive the 1984 Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race victory or just learn more about what makes sailing so great, with activities like the grinder competition and lucky draw, there’s something for everyone.

Following the success of the Bucklands Beach Yacht Club open day at the weekend, ShareBoating’s Wayne Huang is proud to have worked alongside NZST’s Eric Pilling to put this event together. From 11 am, guided tours led by these industry titans are sure to awaken the sailor within.

NZST was originally established in 2008 as a charity to preserve Lion New Zealand and ensure she was available for as many young New Zealanders as possible to experience sailing and learn about New Zealand’s great sailing history.

Since then, they have not only preserved many key yachts, but the art of sailing itself, continuing to host sailing adventure after sailing adventure for future Kiwi generations.

ShareBoating is the first bilingual mobile digital marine marketplace in Australasia. Founded by Huang, ShareBoating is touted as the ultimate digital hub.
