Highland Park was once Foodtown territory, but Foodstuffs is confident locals will soon be stocking their trolleys at an extensive new supermarket (on Aviemore Drive), bringing more value to customers and jobs to east Auckland.
“We’re excited to be bringing the latest generation PAK’nSAVE format to Highland Park,” Lindsay Rowles from Foodstuffs says.
“Highland Park is a vibrant community and opening a new PAK’nSAVE demonstrates our commitment to investing in the local area.”
Locals already have plenty of choice when it comes to supermarkets with a Countdown store also in Highland Park.
In addition, Howick (New World and Countdown), Meadowlands (Countdown), Cockle Bay (Four Square) and Fresh Choice (Half Moon Bay) are all within a few minutes’ drive.
However, Rowles remains confident Foodstuffs’ new development will offer rivals some tough competition, cutting till receipts while delivering much more than bread and butter for shoppers.
“Ample space for customers and efficient behind-the-scenes operations [are] all designed to keep costs down,” he adds.
“With an expected 250 new jobs providing a range of employment opportunities, we’ll also be contributing to the local economy.”
To be situated on Pakuranga Road, and covering almost 15,000 square metres in total, the new development will also house other retail sites in addition to the supermarket (7000m2), which will include a drive through for collecting online orders.
It will be a “flagship location for the Highland Park community”, Rowles expects, with specialised departments including a seafood servery, butchery, bakery, and delicatessen.
“The new supermarket also underscores our commitment to keep investing in every region and providing a world-class grocery offering for all.”
The new store is expected to be open for business from March 2025.
