Howick College’s 1st XV Boys’ rugby team faced off against Macleans College in a highly-anticipated local contest last Saturday.
The top-of-the-table showdown drew a large crowd of spectators from both schools.
Howick withstood early pressure with strong defensive line speed and was rewarded with points from the accurate boot of Sam Owen, who successfully landed all three of his kicks.
The game’s lone try came from year 11 winger Ethan Monk, who made a dazzling run from halfway after a well-executed set-piece move from the backline.
Howick’s defensive effort kept Macleans scoreless throughout the match, resulting in their 13-0 victory.
The athleticism and agility of the Howick College forward pack, led by captain Raymond Nu’uola, have been crucial this season.
They continued to impress, generating forward momentum, controlling collisions, and providing stability at set-pieces.
Despite early-season challenges, the Howick 1st XV has shown consistent growth both on and off the field.
The school says their progress reflects the dedication of the entire Howick College boys’ rugby program, which aims to develop not only skilled rugby players but also exceptional young men.
