According to the NZ Companies Register website, Fisher House Limited is in liquidation as of today, August 1.

PKF Corporate Recovery and Insolvency (Auckland) Limited has been appointed liquidator of the business, which is trading as Fisher House, by shareholder special resolution.

The first liquidator report is due to August 8.

As the Times has reported, the iconic east Auckland bar and grill, located in Highbrook, was closed last night and its car park was empty.

A notice had been attached to its front door that states: “Owing to circumstances beyond our control, we regret to advise that Fisher House is now closed.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.”

The notice is signed ‘Fisher House’ and the word “temporary” has been handwritten at the bottom of it.

The restaurant’s website is still online today and its Facebook page was last updated at 6.30am on July 31.

Its website explains some of the iconic building’s history.

“Fisher House is located in the historical Ra Ora stud homestead, constructed in 1962 by Sir Woolf and Lady Fisher,” it states.

“The homestead is part of their expansive 177-acre racing horse stud farm.

“In September, 1960, this remarkable estate was acquired from Ross Girling Ross, previously serving as an apple farm.

“During the 1960s and 70s, Fisher House hosted an elite roster of notable figures, including the esteemed Queen Mother herself.

“Sir Woolf achieved great success as the leader of the iconic New Zealand company Fisher and Paykel, and Ra Ora gained fame in the realm of horse racing.”

The last year has been tough for New Zealand’s hospitality industry, with numerous restaurants and eateries closing down as the situation is labelled a “crisis”.

Among the more well-known ones that have closed so far this year in Auckland are SPQR, Conch Kitchen and Bar, and Chapel Bar and Bistro.

The Times has contacted PKF Corporate Recovery and Insolvency for comment.

The director of Fisher House is listed as Mark Nicholls.

The Times contacted Nicholls for comment on the situation.

He replied to say he’s not sure what he can say, but in a social media post this afternoon on the NZ Hospo Facebook page, he said today his dream had ended.

“After 9 and a third years, I have had to make the hard decision to put my beloved Fisher House into liquidation.

“It’s one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, however rising costs and falling patronage meant it was no longer sensible to try to carry on.

“I feel devastated not only for myself, but more importantly, my staff who have been left unemployed.

“I am grateful for their support, especially today when we had to break the news to them.

“I am sure that in a few days, I will feel better, but the pain is deep right now.”
