Amazing adventures are just around the corner thanks to Howick Little Theatre.
On until July 27, our local troupe’s take on Around the World in 80 Days has been landing well with audiences, the show’s director Nathan Hay attests.
“This has been an adventure to put on. We’ve choreographed fight scenes, dances, and sword fights – I have been blessed with an amazing cast and crew that have worked diligently and selflessly to create this one-of-a-kind show.”
Based on a Jules Verne classic, the play reveals what can happen when magnificent men (sometimes in flying machines!) have too much time on their hands.
A chance conversation leads to a wager as this rip roaring tale ensues. The eccentric Phileas Fogg (played by Matthew Cousins) bets his fortune on a seemingly impossible exploit – to circumnavigate the earth in 80 days or less.
Delivering an immersive experience, the players perform surrounded on all sides by the audience leaving nowhere to hide, Nathan adds.
“I had been looking for a play that could be put on in the round and performed to all four sides. This play was the first that could allow it and it’s been a fantastic experience – both to direct and to watch.”
The final curtain is set to fall for the last time on this show (at Howick Little Theatre, 1 Sir Lloyd Drive, Lloyd Elsmore Park) on July 27. See www.hlt.org.nz for show times and more information.
