Harlequin Musical Theatre is set to take audiences back in time and around the world for its production of the smash hit Disney show High School Musical.

It’s being staged at the theatre on Pakuranga Road from November 16-30 and features a talented cast that’s been working hard to prepare for opening night.

High School Musical first took the world by storm in 2006 and went on to inspire a generation, becoming a staple of late 2000s culture.

Eighteen years later, the kids who grew up on hit songs such as Bop to the Top 和 We’re All In This Together are bringing it to life on stage at Harlequin.

Based on the Disney Channel’s smash hit movie musical, the show’s story follows basketball captain Troy (Patrick Cunneen) and braniac Gabriella (Raquel Carter) as they’re ‘Breaking Free’ and breaking barriers at East High when they audition for their school musical.

However, their well-meaning friends and the prima donna of the drama club, Sharpay (Michaela Ralph-Smith) want them to ‘Stick to the Status Quo’, and they have plans to get their heads back into the game.

Harlequin’s production is led by Howick directors Charlotte and Jacob Harris, along with musical director Emily Young and choreographer Anya John-Francké.

It stars a cast that shares a passion for one of the movies that drew them to the stage.

The show is full of nostalgia for Disney Channel classics, endless talent across a range of performers, and basketballs.

High School Musical is a show the whole family can enjoy with fresh takes on songs people know and love.

It’s bringing ‘Wildcat’ spirit to Harlequin Musical Theatre from November 16-30, with evening shows starting at 7.30pm and weekend matinees starting at 2pm.
