He’s got talent, and Thursday night’s performance was no exception for accomplished musician Peter Doublinszki.
Having toured Europe extensively, it was a nice surprise to witness Doublinszki’s mesmerising and sensitive use of the acoustic guitar at Uxbridge Arts and Culture Centre right in the heart of Howick Village.
Cosy, calm, and paired with a cuppa of hot chocolate during the intermission, the show was an all-round success, showcasing the best of his original compositions alongside pieces by Francisco Tarrega, Carlo Domeniconi, Roland Dyens and Isaac Albeniz.
From classical to jazz to making you feel as though you might as well have been dancing the tango, there was something in it for everyone, along with an encore to boot as the audience expressed their unwillingness to simply let him walk off the stage without returning once more.
The accomplished musician learned to play the guitar at a very young age and has been playing for around 30 years.
It was the first instrument he learned to play, but since then has learned piano and cello, and encourages young people to go after what they really enjoy for a job.
The concert guitarist completed his Masters of Music degree at the University of Auckland with first class honours in performance, and although his repertoire leans on the classical side, doesn’t claim to have a favourite genre of music.
“At home, we always put on music but while some [songs] are better for driving, cooking or cleaning, others are more suitable for actually listening. Basically, I like all sorts of music.”
Its top notch talent that’s being brought into Uxbridge Arts and Culture Centre these days, so next time you’re out and about, grab a friend or two and get along to some of its upcoming concerts.
You’ll be entertained – that’s for sure.
