The first public event marking the 175th anniversary of Howick and districts was held on Saturday – just hours before the country learned it was moving into a Covid-19 red light setting.
The Botany & Flat Bush Ethnic Association held a well-attended day-long celebration at Uxbridge Theatre which began with a meet-and-greet followed by cultural performances and entertainment culminating with the association’s annual meeting.
The association promotes health and wellness as it reaches out to the cultural diversity of the area.
“The idea is to work towards mutual assistance and harmony as well as inclusiveness,” said the association’s founder Peter Young, who is also a member of the Howick Local Board.
“We have organised a plethora of activities from yoga sessions to Tai Chi, a number of talks on wellbeing, cooking demonstrations, art and music.”
The group will be involved with nine events for the Howick and District’s 175th Anniversary celebrations.
