Howick Local Board is working for our community

On Saturday, March 23, we’re recognising the amazing diversity in our community with our Celebrating Cultures event in Barry Curtis Park.

We hope everyone had a relaxing and restful break as we’ve got another big year ahead of us!

The Howick Local Board is responsible for your parks, libraries and community centres as well as funding and supporting local community groups.

While our first business meeting wasn’t until Thursday, February 15, we’ve been back for the past few weeks, planning the year ahead and attending community events (like Lunar New Year).

We’re looking forward to the pending opening of the Youth Space in Botany (details to come soon) which will provide a dedicated space for our rangatahi (youth).

Moving onto the next big challenges, we’re hoping to resolve the future of the Howick War Memorial Hall and make progress on the much-needed Flat Bush Community Centre and Library.

Our new Local Board Plan that we consulted on last year takes effect in July, along with continued pressure on our limited budget.

In March, Auckland Council will be consulting on the Long Term (10-year) Plan and we’ll be looking for input into our annual budget for the upcoming year so we can continue to focus on what’s important to locals.

Community events and activities throughout March

Music in Parks Kiwi Anthems returns to Lloyd Elsmore Park on Sunday, March 10, with Kiwi icon Annie Crummer and her band the AutoMatic80s, supported by Banana Mundo.

On Saturday, March 23, we’re recognising the amazing diversity in our community with our Celebrating Cultures event in Barry Curtis Park. Come along for performances, food and activities.

And there are other amazing community events which we’re proud to provide funding and support for.

This includes the Auckland Brit and Euro Classic Car Show on Sunday, March 3, and the Pakuranga Rotary Community Carnival and River Festival on Sunday, March 17.

Throughout the year our incredible Libraries and Leisure Centre teams continue to run a wide range of activities and events that provide you and your whānau nearly endless opportunities to learn, grow and stay healthy.
