Te Tuhi and O Wairoa Marae invite the local community to get along and join in the fun at the Matariki Festival.

It’s at O Wairoa Marae in Howick and is being staged to mark the Māori New Year and to bring people together.

It offers the chance to experience Mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) and Toi Māori (Māori art) through performances, workshops, art and craft demonstrations, and plenty of tasty food.

Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in various workshops and demonstrations including tītī tōrea (short stick game), mau rākau (weaponry using long sticks), raranga (weaving), poi making, and he ara uku (clay work).

Cultural performances

They can enjoy a range of performances in the Uxbridge Theatre, featuring Chinese dancers and kapa haka performances from local schools.
