Orchestra to perform on Facebook live

The Auckland Mandolinata Orchestra (AMO) will be opening their Facebook Live concert to the public for free on Sunday July 4.

AMO will be performing with their full plucked-stringed ensemble of over 20 talented musicians from 2pm-3 pm at the International Baptist Church, 2 Dannemora Drive, Howick.

They have a broad range of music including a Christmas repertoire.

“As New Zealand’s premier mandolin Orchestra, we come from humble beginnings,” AMO says.

Prior to the Orchestra forming, founder Doris Flameling arrived in Auckland from her homeland of Holland with a desire to share a bit of heritage.

“She started giving guitar and mandolin lessons and the rest is history!” AMO says.

AMO aims to keep alive the “wonderful heritage of a plucked-string ensemble”. Their mandolin instrument family and related instruments include mandolins, mandolas, electric bass, flute, acoustic guitars and accordions which beautifully expresses their repertoire of music – which includes classical and contemporary, baroque, swing, and folk.

“It’s great entertainment and an excellent selection of music to suit our group,” Sandra Scott from the Dannemora Gardens Residents Association says.

AMO is available to join. It can expand a budding musician’s understanding and appreciation of music and the opportunity to perform 10-15 times a year in a variety of venues.

Additionally their talented team of musicians can be booked as the whole orchestra or as a smaller ensemble.

“We entertain for special events or private functions,” AMO says.

“These have been in parks, retirement villages, churches, and more.”

These events including the Facebook live concert in Howick will be a musical celebration of European cultures.

“Everyone is welcome!” AMO says.
