The Rotary Club of Howick’s Bookarama 4 Kids and Teens gets under way this week.

It opens on Wednesday, July 10, with the first week of the school holidays.

People are encouraged to get along to the Howick War Memorial Hall building in Picton Street and grab some bargains.

“The collection and sorting of the loads of books, puzzles, games and toys from all over Auckland is coming to an end and the sale is being set up,” the club’s president-elect Rob Mouncey says.

“This offshoot of the main Bookarama event in October focuses on children and teens and was started last year by Howick Rotary in conjunction with Frith Jenkins of Howick Village Optometrist.

“The idea behind the event was to encourage young people to read and also to provide an event for families to participate in during the school holidays.

“Funds raised from the sale goes back into the community to assist needy families, improve the environment and help develop young people to their full potential.”

David Fels, the club’s Bookarama convenor, says: “The first sale last year was a big success so we want to see if we can set it up as an annual event for the community.”

Bookarama 4 Kids and Teens is on at the Howick War Memorial Hall building at 91 Picton Street, from 10am-4pm on July 10-12.
