With most school carnivals being cancelled due to Covid-19, Cockle Bay School is probably one of the few that will be going ahead with its school carnival.
If you want to dunk new Botany MP Christopher Luxon at Cockle Bay School Carnival, this is your chance! Be there at 12.30pm to fire a ball at a target and land a bucket of cold water on the new Member of Parliament.
The carnival is on November 14 from 11am-3pm at Alert Level 1
“Luxon is looking forward to his debut at the school’s new and improved Dunk’m station,” says Kirsten Bell, carnival project manager.
The carnival, the school’s biggest fundraiser, was scheduled for March but with Covid striking, the carnival was postponed.
Some of the carnival highlights include the popular Haunted House and Willy Wonka Sweet Factory.
The new addition to the carnival this year is an online silent auction (galabid.com/cbscarvinal) a safety net just in case the carnival is cancelled last minute due to Covid alert levels suddenly changing.
Auctions close November 13 at 8pm and can be collected at the carnival.
Health and safety additions have been made to make the carnival as safe as possible for the community, including QR sign-ins, hand sanitisers at every station, food handlers wearing gloves and masks, money handlers wearing gloves and cancelling some activities like face painting or multiple people handling the same items. The school is also encouraging buying carnival wristbands to wear instead of carrying cash, with full refunds being offered if the carnival is cancelled.
The school is both excited and on edge for the carnival to go ahead as they fundraise for the field rejuvenation project.
“This is my fourth and final carnival as organiser so I want to go out on a high. Our record net profit is $74.5k, we were aiming to better it, but considering the year it has been, we will take what we can get,” says Bell.
“My aim is simply for the kids of the community to have fun and something to look forward to this year,” she says.
