Italian restaurant Casa Tua in Farm Cove has closed.
Signs have gone up in the windows of the popular restaurant and tapas room saying the landlord has taken over possession of the premises.
The Times has attempted contacting Casa Tua’s owner Richard Austin who last week was still taking bookings at the Fisher Road premises for Christmas.
Visits were made to two residential addresses – one in Half Moon Bay and another in Howick – and notes were left in the letterboxes seeking additional details. The restaurant itself still has tables set and other furnishings are still visible.
Speculation is mounting following the sudden closure.
The bakery next door said Casa Tua hadn’t been open for about three weeks. Another business said the closure was because of rent.
The Times has tried contacting the name given on the notices of closure on the restaurant’s windows to confirm this. Two calls have not been answered.
There are understood to be 12 to 13 employees affected by the closure and at least one staff member contacted by the Times is owed two weeks’ pay. The worker has lost contact with Mr Austin.
The Companies Office lists Mr Austin as the sole director of Casa Tua, which was incorporated in May 2010.
