With a tenacious passion for life, William Pike is known to inspire and shock audiences with his collection of remarkable stories including surviving a freak Mount Ruapehu volcanic eruption on September 25, 2007 when he and his friend, James Christie, were overnighting in Dome shelter on the mountain.

An eruption claimed one of his legs but left his drive to succeed and passion for adventure unscathed.

Losing a leg after being trapped in a volcanic eruption on Mt Ruapehu has not changed William’s outlook on life, nor has it stopped him from doing the things that he loves. He climbs mountains, goes bushwalking, enjoys scuba diving, hunting, kayaking and more.

An impassioned teacher, he leads a nationwide youth development programme, teaching Kiwi kids that they too, can do anything they put their minds to.
