Local elections are an exciting time with hundreds of billboards going up at every roundabout and corner of the street; party leaders, ministers and MPs visiting our neck of the woods; candidates campaigning hard, knocking on our doors and bombarding the Times office with press releases of what they would like to achieve.
Then there are fundraisers like this one held recently to bring in the Moon Festival.
The event was hosted by Howick Local Board member Peter Young for Communities and Residents (C&R)– a right-leaning ticket in Auckland that a number of candidates are standing on including Young, Nivedita Sharma Vij, Bob Wichman (Botany), Katrina Bungard, David Collings and Garry Boles (Pakuranga) and Richie Barnett (Howick).
The Moon Festival fundraiser that involved dinner and karaoke had Howick Local Board chairman David Collings and Peter Young grab the microphone to test their vocal chords as they entertained the guests.
The fun night that also had C & R president Keith Patterson and government relations manager at Vector Nicholas Albrecht in attendance, was held with the help of Sarin Lau of Pier Beauty Parlour at Kings Restaurant, Ti Rakau Dr.
