The formal ribbon-cutting of the $20m Pakuranga Medical Centre was done by Minister of Health Dr David Clark on Monday evening.
The two-storied, state-of-the-art, people-centred practise changes the way doctors and nurses work.
Offering patients multiple services all under one roof since its informal opening in October, the well-designed Pakuranga Medical Centre pushes the boundaries for health care—accommodating around 15 consulting room not only for GPs but also for a podiatrist, and specialists including psychologists, orthopaedic and plastic surgeons.
Accompanied by MP for Pakuranga Simeon Brown and DHB chief executive Counties Manukau Margie Apa, the minister said that the new centre exemplified how integrated care can start with primary care.
“Having a multidisciplinary team working together is invaluable for patient outcomes, this is what patients need.”
Medical director Eileen Stables said that the new light-filled building fundamentally changes the way the doctors and nurses work.
Pakuranga Medical Centre’s general manager Dale Shepherd summed up the move from the earlier premises down the road to the brand new, purpose–built medical centre saying, “It’s like moving from a leaky tent to the grandeur of Taj Mahal.”
