Mayday, mayday, code black

Ford is launching two limited edition vehicles on May 1, and you can have any colour you want as long as it’s black. Ford Ranger FX4 and the Ford Everest FX2 boast Shadow Black details and a little more attitude than the mainstream versions.

Ranger FX4 is limited to 200 vehicles, and the Everest FX2 is limited to just 50 examples. The Ranger FX4 arrives as the Ford Ranger’s popularity continues to grow.

The Ranger has been the best-selling new vehicle in the country for the last two years, and its popularity continues to grow.

In 2017, Ranger has taken an early lead as the country’s number one new vehicle with 810 Ford Rangers sold in March alone.

“The Ranger FX4 makes a great ute even more extraordinary with its unique style and boldness, and that’s a difficult thing to do with a vehicle that already looks great and has won so many awards including the NZAA and Motoring Writers’

Guild’s Best in Class five years in a row,” said Jeremy Nash, Ford New Zealand Marketing Manager for Light Commercial and SUVs.

“The designers have risen to the challenge though, and done a great job with this one. We don’t expect the limited numbers to last long.” Ranger FX4 is based on the XLT, and adds larger 18” Stark Grey alloy wheels, black bonnet and tailgate decal wraps, and side decals with ‘FX4’ branding.

RANGER FX4: The FX4 is in available as an automatic only, powered by the same fivecylinder 3.2-litre turbo diesel engine found in XLT that produces 147kW and 470Nm; Ranger FX4 costs $2350 more than the XLT automatic that it’s based on. Photos supplied by Ford NZ

The pick-up also gets a blacked out sports bar, rear bumper, side steps and door handles, along with a unique design black grille.

Inside, there are leather accented ‘FX4’ branded seats, front and rear carpet mats, and black interior highlights. FX4 has a recommended retail price of
$65,390.

The limited edition Everest FX2, which is based on the Everest Trend, not only arrives as a special edition with a similar treatment as the Ranger FX4, but it also
brings a two-wheel drive (RWD) Everest to the range.

Everest FX2, in RWD only, has unique 18” wheels, a blacked out grille, tinted windows, black roof rails and leather seat trim. Recommended retail is $69,990.

Ranger FX4 and Everest FX2 have SYNC3, Ford’s latest in-vehicle communications and entertainment platform that features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, faster performance, more conversational voice recognition, intuitive smartphone- like touchscreen and an improved graphic user interface.
