2023 Howick Sports Awards finalists announced

Lance Revill of Revills Boxing Gym last year winning the Supreme Award. He was named coach of the year and the gym was last year named club of the year.

The finalists for this year’s Howick Sports Awards have been named.

The period of achievements to be considered fall between April 1, 2022, and March 31 this year. The nominee must reside within the Howick Local Board area or represent a sports club or organisation within the area.

Over the next three weeks leading up to the awards, the Times will shine a spotlight on the individuals and teams nominated for their respective categories and give a background of their achievements that led to their nomination.

2023 Howick Sports Awards finalists:

Sportswoman of the year:

Criteria: A female athlete who has excelled as an individual or in a team in one or more sports.

  • Lili Tokaduadua (Netball)
  • Olivia Rooney (Triathlon)
  • Zoe Benson (Football)

Sportsman of the year:

Criteria: A male athlete who has excelled as an individual or in a team.

  • Huw Davies (Softball)

Junior Sportswoman of the year:

Criteria: An U19 female athlete who has excelled as an individual or in a team.

  • Danielle Asiata (Swimming)
  • Jessica Ready (Skateboarding)
  • Lili Tokaduadua (Netball)

Junior Sportsman of the year:

Criteria: An U19 male athlete who as excelled as an individual or in a team.

Masters of the year:

Criteria: Outstanding performance by athletes over 30.

Internationalist of the year:

Criteria: Outstanding performance at the international level.

  • Patrick Holmes (Special Olympics Howick Pakuranga)

Coach of the year:

Criteria: Outstanding performance that’s seen the nominee’s athlete or team achieve success.

  • Flaminio Oliveira (Gymnastics)
  • Nick Codyre (Athletics)
  • Wade Tresadern (Yachting)

Official of the year:

Criteria: Outstanding performance by a referee/umpire/official.

  • Cameron Wilson (Hockey)

  • Gabriel Hernandez (Tennis)
  • Steve Wilson (Special Olympics Howick Pakuranga)

Team of the year:

Criteria: Outstanding performance by a team.

  • Howick Pakuranga Cricket Club Premier Women (Llamas)

Junior team of the year:

Criteria: Outstanding performance by a team with all members under the age of 19 as of January 1, 2023.

  • Howick/Sunnyhills Junior Girls Interclub team

Club of the year:

Criteria: Outstanding performance as a club, making a difference in the community with new initiatives and opportunities. Can also be based on growth and results.
