Tear the kids away from their iPads and plan a trip back in time to the McNicol Homestead Museum in Clevedon.
The homestead provides a glimpse of how life once was in the Pohutakawa Coast area.
The house and associated grounds is the original 1878 home of the McNicol family who emigrated from Scotland and took up residence in the area.
It has been lovingly restored and now contains displays and other items relating to the history of Clevedon and its pioneering families.
Marvel at the retro kitchen step inside the 19th-century bedrooms and gaze out to the rich pasture beyond.
On show is wartime memorabilia collected from locals’ involvement, rugby photos and trophies from the first Wairoa Rugby Club team, as well as artifacts discovered over the years.
The attractive grounds are a great place to bring a picnic, take photos and soak up the serenity.
It is governed under the auspices of the Clevedon & Districts Historical Society and is open Saturdays, Sundays 1 pm-4 pm, or other times by appointment.
