Comedy stars on the scene

AMUSING: Comedian Jesse Griffin stars as country music legend Wilson Dixon as the lead in next week’s comedy show at Uxbridge. Photo supplied.

He’s been on the Australian, UK and New Zealand comedy circuits for years, and now the talented Jesse Griffin is bringing his expertise to the Uxbridge stage.

His character, country music legend Wilson Dixon, hails from Cripple Creek, Colorado, with a multitude of entertaining, melodic philosophies on life.

Griffin started comedy in the early 1990s in Dunedin while at school, and carried on through his university years, moving to Melbourne in 1995 to enter drama school.

From 2004, he began performing as a solo comedian and travelled a lot to the UK, living there for an entire year in 2008.

He’s continued to perform in New Zealand, Australia and the UK after moving back home, and can’t wait to bring to Howickians the best of his repertoire next Friday night.

“The thing I’m most looking forward to is what I always look forward to when I perform live: the excitement of getting up in front of a crowd and making them laugh.

“I like interacting with audiences, and like the way every night and every show is different. I also like getting paid at the end.”

Joining him on stage is Lana Walters – a fresh face to the New Zealand comedy scene following her success in the 2016 Raw Comedy Quest where she made the grand final, and Angella Dravid, who is known to explore the unexpected in the world of dark and somewhat absurd comedy.

Combined with an unpredictable stage presence that commands and engages the audience, her dark, unique and strange comedy style is one not to be missed.

This crazy bunch will be watched over by funny man Nick Rado, head writer and guest panellist on TV3’s 7 Days and winner of Best Comedy Show Dunedin Fringe.

The show takes place Friday, June 16 at the Uxbridge Arts and Culture Centre starting at 8pm.
