The 3rd edition of the World School Sevens lived up to its expectations as 19 teams competed over two divisions at Pakuranga United Rugby Club over the weekend.

“Despite weather forecasters predicting thunderstorms the only storm created was the winning New Zealand boys team and the Australian girls team winning their respective finals,” said tournament director Phil Gaze.

The event was broadcast live on Sky TV and also had a live streaming with strong international followings in Australia, Fiji, Canada and parts of Europe.

“Already we have interest from several new teams and will look to build on next year with hopefully an increase in 4-5 more teams in 2019,” said Gaze.

“We are excited about coming back next year to the Pakuranga United Rugby Club and building on the success of our 2018 event.”
