The cross-examination of the man accused of killing a young Pakuranga mother has continued in the High Court at Auckland today.
Mother of two Chozyn Koroheke died from her injuries after being shot in the abdomen on April 4 last year.
Turiarangi Tai is on trial in front of a jury and Justice Matthew Muir, accused of deliberately shooting Ms Koroheke with a 12 gauge double-barrelled shotgun.
Under cross-examination from Crown Prosecutor Mark Williams, Tai said last week that he accepted he pulled the trigger to release the cartridge that shot Ms Koroheke, but maintains he didn’t do it deliberately.
He says he doesn’t remember the moment the gun went off.
“It was never deliberate and I stick by that,” he said.
Tai told the court he fled the scene to clear his head.
“I just wanted to go get my head straight. I was pretty emotional,” he said.
“A lot of thoughts were coming into my head…what just happened.”
Tai said he was emotional about “the whole thing.”
“I was angry with myself for ever taking the gun into the room in the first place.”
The trial is expected to wrap up this week.
