The Chorus cabinet at the Cook Street and Minerva Terrace is to be repainted after it was damaged by a vehicle collision.
Telecommunications provider Chorus and the Beautification Trust teamed up to design eight cabinets in south Auckland to be painted by local artists.
One mural cabinet, on the Cook Street roundabout, was originally painted by Tamara Kogler in 2017.
The beautifully painted and bee-themed piece was focused on how food is grown and cycled back into the environment.
Unfortunately, it was damaged by a vehicle in 2019, says Beautification Trust community manager Dawn Crispe. “One of the panels was damaged,” Crispe says.
Crispe says it will be repainted, hopefully, over Christmas. The artist engaged in the repainting will be XiXi Lin.
“She’s redoing the honeycomb shapes on the mural,” Crispe says. “She’s also going to be putting in little illustrations within each shape.”
