Edgewater Takeaways has new owners

George Lucič was a beloved member of the community.

Community hotspot and much-loved family business Edgewater Takeaways is getting new owners.

George (Goran) Lucič, a well-known icon in Pakuranga, ran the store with his wife Glenda for 43 years.

He was famous for his friendly demeanour, beautiful food and love of bestowing his customers with nicknames. He died on August 14.

Fiona Lucič -Clarke, George’s eldest daughter, announced on social media on October 1 that the store, which is “smack dab in the heart of the Edgewater block of shops”, has sold.

Customers and friends left an array of supportive comments and well-wishes, many re-telling memories of George and the shop, highlighting the effect he had on the local community.

“For myself, my mum, my younger sister and our families, it’s been an emotional day,” Lucič -Clarke wrote. “But the time is right for the shop to reopen with a new family at the helm.”

Craig Clarke, Fiona’s husband, told the Times that the person who will be taking over the shop is local and a previous customer of George’s.

“He knew him well,” Clarke says, “and while he’s looking to put his own mark on the place, he’s also keen to carry on Goran’s values and traditional fish and chips.”

The family, Clarke says, is excited that the shop is reopening.

“We wish the new owners all the best for the future and look forward to being customers. The locals are in good hands,” says Clarke.
