Elim celebrates brilliant results

Camryn Delport, 12, performing extraordinarily at the National Age group Championships

Elim Christian College is celebrating the ‘brilliant results’ of its talented dancers and gymnasts.

Millicent Rowe, 13, and her team achieved 3rd out of 150 entries in the world for choreography at the Hip Hop Unite European world championships.

The judging for the event was online.

“Dance has allowed me to express myself in many ways and start the journey to fulfil my dreams of being a professional dancer,” Rowe says.

She’s also been involved in running Elim’s school dance where she choreographs dances to perform at events and award ceremonies.

Colbie de Jager, 11, achieved 1st in the beam, 2nd in the vault, and 3rd overall as an Auckland gymnast at the National Age group Championships.

“Training for 20 hours a week was worth it,” de Jager says.

At the same event another Elim student, aerobic gymnast Camryn Delport, 12, achieved two 1st and 4th place finishes.

“Dancing keeps me fit, helps with friendships with peers and I love my dance family,” Delport says.

She trained at Legacy Everything Fitness for 12 hours per week.

She hopes to compete internationally next year.

Gymnast Jenna Smit, 14, represented Gymsport Manukau at the New Zealand Gymnastics championships. She made it into the top 32 on day one and finished 16th in her age group on the day two finals.

Duncan Ramsey, 14, competed at the National levels 7 Gymnastics Championships and achieved 21st overall and 8th on the high bar.

“My goal is to compete at the Olympics one day,” Ramsey says.

These fantastic results all occurred during the July school holidays.

“These students have shown courage and commitment in pursuing their passions,” Mandy Heim, Middle Years lead and a teacher at Elim Christian College, says.

“I acknowledge the tremendous effort and financial commitment from parents who do whatever it takes to help their children succeed in these extracurricular activities.”
