The fight to save Stockade Hill views now has a catchy tune.
Howick songwriter Tony King has written a song about the long-standing battle to save the iconic views that can be seen from on and around Stockade Hill.
Inspiration struck one day as he found himself thinking about the view out to the Hauraki Gulf and what it would be like if one day it was gone.
Now King and a team of singers, musicians, and film crew have been going full steam ahead to release the song along with a music video in hopes of raising awareness and money for the cause.
The song is called Standing on Stockade Hill and the collective of performers who brought the song to life are called “Stock Aid”, King says, in a nod to Band Aid.
“The song is really my personal viewpoint of losing the magnificent views we have as we drive passed Stockade Hill coming in to Howick. But it could be anyone’s viewpoint or for that matter all of us collectively,” he says.
The music video is based around scenes shot in the studio with the various singers/musicians involved, some behind the scenes shots.
There’s just one more shot to get before the song can be released, and they need your help.
“We need a crowd to sing or pretend to sing the very lines [“Standing up on Stockade Hill is special to us all” and “No, leave our views alone”] along with a ‘fist pump’ on the word no,” he says.
“The bigger the crowd the more the impact.”
So this Sunday, April 14, at 1pm the community are invited to join the crew on Stockade Hill to take park in the music video filming.
You don’t need to be a good singer to take part, and people of all ages and walks of life are welcome.
On the day, King and his team will give you all the information you need, as well as a preview of the song.
