Ready to go fishing, have loads of fun, and win a $1000 apart from the King of the Prospect Cup as well as a miniature cup?

The King of The Prospect Cup is up for grabs on Sunday, April 11.

Now in its 40th year, the long tradition of the biggest catch contest is back again after being cancelled last year due to Covid.

Barry O’Shaughnessy, the community-minded owner of the iconic Prospect of Howick and

The Good Home Restaurant and Bar located centrally at Picton Street, Howick says Ken Holt was the first winner when they first started the King of the Prospect Contest in 1981.

“The prizes were a Trophy Cup, plus $150 and four crates of Lion Red beer!

“These days, the prize for the heaviest Snapper will have your name engraved on the prestigious The King of the Prospect Cup and a miniature Cup apart from winning a cool $1000. If you go fishing, you may as well enter and win a prize,” he says of the long-standing tradition that he has carried on much like the popular Annual Point to Pub Run.

Barry is currently looking for sponsorships from more community minded businesses and would welcome their participation to make it a very special event.

“They are more than welcome to get in touch with me,” he says.

The much-awaited fishing contest starts at 4am and ends at 3-4pm at the Bosuns Bar/Garden Bar at the other end of the Good Home Restaurant and Bar, where the weigh-in will be done.

Apart from the heaviest Snapper there will be loads of other prizes for different categories of fish including Kingfish, Kawai, Trevally and John Dory.

As they did 40 years ago, all the fish will be auctioned and proceeds will be donated to one of the local schools.

In the past schools including Shelly Park School, Bucklands Beach Primary and Mellons Bay School have been the recipients of the proceeds.

Free bbq comes with the tickets that are priced at $25 (early bird) and $30.

Go on, enter the fishing contest and be a part of the grand 40th anniversary celebration with plenty of mystery prizes to win.
