Now is the time to hand-in your prohibited firearms and parts at collection events in east Auckland.
The firearms amnesty and buy-back ends on December 20. There will be no compensation after this date for those handing in their firearms or parts for buy-back. After that point, possessing a prohibited firearm will be an offence – no exceptions, said Inspector Chris Barry, Area Prevention Manager, Counties Manukau Eastern Area.
“Police encourage all firearms holders who have a prohibited firearm and/or prohibited part to attend a collection event in Auckland this weekend,” he said.

The events are on Sunday September 22 and Monday September 23 at Ormiston Activity Centre on Chapel Road in Flat Bush from 10am-2pm.
A firearms collection event in Pakuranga on Father’s Day September 1 saw 71 owners processed with 126 firearms handed in iwht 484 firearms parts.
Collection events will run up until December 20, with a new schedule of events for October and November going up on police’s website thereafter.
