Halliday, Downes star in impressive win

White Fern and Northern Districts representative, Brooke Halliday notched up an impressive 108 not-out off 81 balls.

Howick Pakuranga Cricket Club’s Premier Women have notched up their first win of the season in dominant fashion, prevailing over Auckland University Cricket Club by 129 runs.

An impressive batting performance from White Fern and Northern Districts representative Brooke Halliday, scoring 108*(81) and Tania Dalton Foundation Scholarship recipient, Marama Downes, 82 (100), helped Howick Pakuranga to 299/4.

Howick Pakuranga made light work of the Auckland University Premier Women’s side, bowling them all out for 170 with more than 10 overs spare.

Mansimram Kaur was the most impressive of the bowlers taking 5-35 off 9.4 overs, with creditable performances too from Skye Bowden and Amberly Parr who took two wickets each.

This is the first win of the Howick Pakuranga Premier Women’s season in the Prichard Cup limited over competition after their round 1 fixture was abandoned due to rain.

The Howick Pakuranga Premier men’s side travelled to Birkenhead War Memorial Park for the first day of their Round 2 fixture in the Tom Hellaby Two-Day Competition.

The HPCC U11 Girls Spirit team were blessed to meet the Premier Women’s side before supporting them to their big win.

After losing the toss and going in for a bat, Howick Pakuranga lost four early wickets to a strong Birkenhead bowling line-up.

Howick Pakuranga had lost six wickets for 33 runs before Josh McGregor, 55 (108) and Azharudin Lambat, 76 (162) helped the side to a total first innings score of 200.

Howick Pakuranga bowler Jamie Brown picked up a wicket, leaving Birkenhead 32/1 at the close of the first day’s play.

They are currently top of the table after their convincing first innings win against Hibiscus Coast in round one.

Papatoetoe 72 (T Helen Semau 17; A Todd 2-11) lost to Cornwall 73/4 (S Carnachan 23; T Helen Semau 3-21) by 6 wickets.

Parnell 98 (M Way 18; S Bultitude 4-19) lost to Takapuna District 99/4 (S Borcoski 23; M Curran 3-11) by 6 wickets.
