Happy New Year to all

What a beautiful summer we are having.

The board’s workshops have recommenced, and board members have enjoyed attending local events over the past few weeks. These include family events in local parks which are part of Auckland Council’s summer parks activation programme; and a get-together for elderly residents from local Haumaru Housing villages.

FREE EVENTS

Look out for pop-up ‘Junk Play’ events at Macleans Park. These will occur over three Saturdays – February 13, 20 and 27 between 9am and 1 pm, and incorporate repurposing junk into resources for learning, creating an environment where children can play, invent and discover while promoting a cultural shift towards Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Families are welcome to come along, join in, have fun, and appreciate the benefit encouraging free play has on our children.

Auckland Council’s ‘Movies in Parks’ team is bringing two movies to Howick. This Friday,
February 12, you can enjoy “Footloose” at Barry Curtis Park. You can arrive from 6.30 pm and perhaps enjoy a picnic tea until the movie commences at 8.30 pm.

Bring the little ones to Lloyd Elsmore Park to see ‘Frozen 2.’ This family favourite will show on Friday March 26 at 7.50 pm. Arrive from 5.30 pm and enjoy pre-movie entertainment and a bite to eat. ‘Frozen’ costumes welcomed!!

Our popular “Kiwi Anthems In the Park” is on Sunday March 14 in Lloyd Elsmore Park. Jordan Luck Band, AutoMatic80s, and Ekko Park are returning for another free Music in Parks concert starting at 2pm until 6pm.

PUMP TRACK

Later in February we will see the arrival of a pump track in Nixon Park, Howick. This is a temporary installation, designed to provide a fun activity for young people of all ages over the summer months. It will be located on the rear car park at the lower end of the park and is suitable for bikes, scooters and skateboards.

SEEKING WATER

Exploration is underway to locate aquifer in Lloyd Elsmore Park. Council is ultimately hoping to provide water to users of the park by constructing water bores. The Local Board supports this great initiative at this time of water shortage.
