The increasingly popular Howick Fun Walk & Run community event scheduled for Sunday March 27 has fallen victim to Covid.
Howick Rotary, who organises the event in March every year, were considering whether holding the event would be possible with the many school children who participate probably only partly through their vaccination programmes.
Erring on the side of caution, the event looked like it would need to be cancelled because the children’s vaccination position however with Omicron in the community and the move to red under the traffic light system the decision is clear.
“So, to all the participants, sponsors and volunteers including Coastguard, Howick Rotary is sorry but the 2022 event is cancelled,” President Madeleine East said.
“All the members of the club are disappointed that this wonderful community event cannot be held. It is a really fun day on Stockade Hill for families, school kids, athletes and sponsors and there will be a big gap in Howick’s community calendar.”
“We are committed to holding the Howick Fun Walk & Run on an annual basis so look out for the event in 2023!”
