Howick local Bradley McKenzie has won the Coastguard Supporter Young Volunteer of the Year Award.
Every year Coastguard recognises its young volunteers from across the country who freely give their time to saving lives at sea.
McKenzie has been volunteering for Coastguard since he was 18 years old. Now, four years on, he is a well-respected senior crew member as well as Coastguard Howick’s training officer and crew chief.
The Coastguard Supporter Young Volunteer of the Year Award is decided by donors and supporters of Coastguard. There were four finalists in this year’s award with McKenzie gaining the most votes to win.
His fellow volunteers at Coastguard Howick say McKenzie, who is a qualified marine and outboard engineer, has a positive can-do attitude and is an invaluable team member.
McKenzie has won an Outward Bound course which will help him further develop his leadership skills.
