An east Auckland jewellery store has been targeted by thieves for the second time this year.
A spokesperson for Counties Manukau Police says an investigation is under way into a burglary committed overnight on April 20 at Botany Town Centre business TJ Handcrafted.
“The incident took place at about 1.30am with the offenders leaving in a vehicle after breaking into the store.
“Police have been at the store … and have been making follow-up enquiries including CCTV footage.
“This premises was also the scene of an alleged aggravated robbery incident in January.
“Two men were charged in relation to that matter and are currently before the courts.”
The same jewellery store was previously targeted on January 10.
Detective senior sergeant Veronica McPherson said at the time two people were arrested and charged in relation to the alleged armed robbery of the business.
One of the suspects was armed with a shotgun, she said.
“A quantity of jewellery has been taken.
“These offenders fled the shopping centre on a moped shortly afterward.
“This moped was later located in the nearby East Tamaki area.”
Police examined the store and the moped following the incident.
On January 20, police publicly announced they had made two arrests over the robbery on January 10.
“We arrested and charged a 22-year-old man with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault over the incident.
“We have also recently arrested a 41-year-old man in relation to the incident.
“He is also charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.”
The 22-year-old appeared in the Auckland District Court while the 41-year-old appeared in the Manukau District Court.
