It’s a fabulous, fun, family show for all ages featuring sophisticated contemporary dance, and tomorrow’s The Adventures of Xin show at Uxbridge Arts and Culture Centre is a must-see for theatre goers.

The one-off special performance features Autumn School guest dancers from the New Zealand Dance Company (NZDC), showcasing for viewers a glimpse into the life of Xin.

“Xin is unique. Xin doesn’t give up. Xin is happy. Be like Xin and you will be happy too,” reads the show description.

Success, individuality and happiness will be recurring themes throughout the performance, which features dance pieces by Ashleigh Perrett, Tupua Tigafua and linking works by NZDC dancers.

Talented choreographer Xin Ji, who is one of the main dancers in the show, knew at the age of eight that he wanted to dance professionally.

When his childhood dance teacher encouraged him to audition for the Beijing Dance Academy, he went for it, and following graduation was offered a position in Japan with Shiki Theatre Company performing in many well-known musicals.

He has since gone on to perform on international stages with NZDC, and brings to the Uxbridge stage a strong repertoire of dancing performances across the globe.

The Adventures of Xin begins at 6:00pm tomorrow night at Uxbridge Arts & Culture Centre.

  • There will also be a Family Dance Workshop held 6:00pm tonight (April 20) at Uxbridge for families who would enjoy a fun movement workshop with some of the NZDC dancers. No experience necessary and tickets are available at the NZDC website.
