“Parents shouldn’t have to do it all and many can’t because of work demands – thats where sKids can help” says Brown.

Seven years ago whilst being part of the church ministry for under 5’s, Brown was approached by the Managing Director of sKids  to work for the organisation, developing their incubatory programmes before they were franchised.

Today she spends a lot of time supporting franchisees to ensure their sites are compliant to the sKids brand and the Ministry of Social Development standards.

“sKids programmes have been designed to grow core capabilities in kids so they can flourish in life,” she says.

“Our programmes teach children life skills, through our Heart Foundation approved FoodStorm cooking programme, sKids Active Sports programme and Jellybeans music (now adopted by schools).

“We assist with homework and most importantly we build self confidence.  Parents and families know that the safety and happiness of their kids is our priority.”

sKids was developed in 1996 and currently operates in 168 schools throughout New Zealand.

In the local region Mellons Bay School, St Marks, Howick, Willowbank, Sancta Maria, Bucklands Beach, Riverina , Anchorage Park, Somerville and Botany Downs Primary offer the sKids  programmes.

Over three hundred franchisors, franchisee owners, industry support businesses and their colleagues attended the 23rd Westpac New Zealand Franchise Awards presentation and Gala dinner on 11 November held at Alexandra Park.

There are over 600 franchised businesses in NZ employing over 120,000 people and contributing over $27.6billion to the NZ economy.

Hosts the Franchise Association of New Zealand, appointed the Business Excellence Foundation, to evaluate entries against the Baldridge criteria which is recognised as a very comprehensive business standard.

The association is a member based organization providing a support and best practice franchising standards framework for franchisors and franchisees across New Zealand.

The Franchise New Zealand Annual Conference and the Westpac New Zealand Franchise Awards, plus the regular Speaker Breakfasts and After 4’s are all key events of FANZ, which encourage, sharing and learning, and the promotion of Best Practice Franchising.

“When you are in a franchise you are in a business for yourself but not by yourself, and this franchisee is a brilliant example of the success that franchising can bring” says Brad Jacobs, Chairman Franchise Association of New Zealand.
