It’s one of the most well-known musicals of all time – a production watched and beloved by many.

Now, locals will be given the privilege of experiencing the stage musical CATS live, as Macleans College prepares to put on a show to impress.

Macleans has a reputation of producing high standard performances every year, with its portrayal of The Addams Family gracing the college stage last year.

This year’s production will once again be directed by Macleans director of performance music Steve Miles, who has been teaching at Macleans College for two years. He said he was “blown away” by the dance talent demonstrated by some of his students in last year’s stage challenge.

“Following this, I was determined to try and encourage some of these students to take part in a musical theatre production. CATS is a real showpiece and offers a great opportunity for our students to fully engage and ‘buy in’ to the complete musical theatre experience,” he said.

The performances will be held on May 11, 13, 17 and 19 at 7pm in the Colin Prentice Auditorium, which Mr Miles said provides a more intimate environment.

He looks forward to showcasing stunning choreography and acrobatics, as well as exceptional solos topped off by a classy orchestra in the production.

“Musical productions at Macleans College really are a huge collaborative enterprise, bringing together the entire school community. Staff and students from all areas of the school provide support in costume making, makeup and hair design, set design and construction, lighting and prop creation,” said Mr Miles.

“Mostly, I am looking forward to showing our audience the result of this collaboration and the enormous depth of talent among our staff and students alike, both on and off the stage.”
